Rattle: Horse & Pheasant

This is a shamanic rattle made from horse rawhide and hazelwood. We have placed quartz crystal chips inside and finished off the handle with a layer of bee’s wax produced from rescued bees and some pheasant feathers.

About the making of this rattle

Our rattles are carefully crafted from materials sourced from the UK. The hazel handles are harvested from traditional coppiced woodlands in Lancashire and polished with wax from bees that have been rescued. The hides used to create the rattle heads are from red deer and horses that have roamed British meadows and moorlands. We decorate each rattle with feathers from birds we find out on our walks or lying by the side of roads. Our rabbit fur comes from the southwest of England from rabbits that have been culled through a wildlife conservation programme.

Pheasant has a particular strut in its style, and the flamboyant eye-popping colours of the male pheasant remind us that nature knows no end to its variety and creativity. They have an amazing ability to camouflage themselves and hide, with an unusual way to outwit its predators. It will lie low until they are really close and then flap their wings vigorously and give out a prominent staple call making the predator jump and delay the chase.
