16″ ‘Winter Solstice’ Shamanic Drum. Reindeer with Sunstone

This is a 16-inch shamanic drum made from Reindeer Deer rawhide and is a special drum as it was birthed at the time of the Winter Solstice in December 2020.

We have placed a sunstone crystal in the handle which brings with it the energy of strength. In recognition of the auspicious day on which this drum was birthed, we decorated the inside the wooden hoop with a sun motif.

At this special time of year the sun rises in the same place on the horizon for three days, preparing for its journey back across our skies towards the height of summer. Everything is still, and everything is at rest. It is a time to drop deep within ourselves, seek out our dreams and visions and then plan to manifest them as we look towards the growing light. The old year has died, and the way is now prepared for the rebirth of activity and expansion into the outer world.

Guidance for choosing your drum

The 14″ drums are the most portable and tend to have a higher pitch than the larger ones. Our 16″ is often seen as a great compromise between transportability and depth of voice. The larger 18″ drum is a little heavier but usually has a deeper voice. However, each drum is very much an individual and can vary from what is expected.

About the making of this drum

We make our drums from our home on the edge of the West Pennine Moors in the northwest of England. We create the drums in sacred space and awakening them in ceremony over incense.

We also take great care in the sourcing of our materials. The Red Deer hides used to make our drums come from Scotland and the Reindeer hides come from Finland. The timber for the Ash hoop is sourced from UK ash and is crafted by a local carpenter in Wigan. The wood has a layer of beeswax to bring out its natural grain. The wax is from bees which have been rescued.
