This is a 16 inch shamanic drum made from Red Deer rawhide and is a really special drum in that it was birthed at the time of the winter solstice and full moon. During this 24 hour period there was an incredibly rare alignment which will only happen once in our lifetimes, unless we are still around in 2094! A few hours after the winter solstice there was a full moon.
Each of the Full Moons has a name, and our English ancestors in Medieval England called this the Oak Moon. To reflect this our carpenter has made the wooden hoops from English oak rather than our usual ash, and we have painted an oak leaf motif on the inside of the oak hoop.
This drum is made from Red Deer hide and the hoop is English Oak waxed with bees wax from rescued bees. We have set a Blue Tigers Eye crystal in the handle which brings with it the energy of stillness. The tension ring is wrapped in a suede and the fluffy fabric finishes off the handle so that it is really comfortable to hold.
The Oak Moon
The underlying energy of oak tells of inner strength and will lead the way to truth, bringing personal power and vision. Oak energy is also know to provide a gateway to understanding. Oak restores the will and self determination that may have become weakened in times of stress, and restores faith in the vision of what you are working towards.
The energy of the Winter Solstice
At this special time of year the sun rises in the same place on the horizon for three days, preparing for it’s journey back across our skies towards the height of summer. Everything is still, and everything is at rest. It is a time to drop deep within ourselves, seek out our dreams and visions and then plan to manifest them as we look towards the growing light. The old year has died, and the way is now prepared for the rebirth of activity and expansion into the outer world.
The energy of Blue Tigers Eye: stillness
Blue Tigers Eye is also known as Hawks Eye. It has a beautiful deep blue colour, like the night sky, and is a very soothing stone as it aids in reducing stress, increasing calm and easing anxiety. It supports speaking with clarity and acting with integrity. We have named this drum after the still quiet energy of the Winter Solstice, and it will be created with a deep dark blue ring to match the crystal, and finished with a grey-brown furry handle.

The energy of Red Deer
When we encounter the Red Deer in the wild, our breath catches and we are transfixed by their graceful features and delicate movements. We can draw on their energy to give us the power to deal with challenges with grace. As Red Deer holds a real gentleness, we can be sensitive and intuitive was we walk our path. We can also hold onto vigilance and also adaptability, with the ability to change direction quickly should we need to. Just as the deer has an uncanny sense of where to find the green freshness earth provides, we can ask the deer within ourselves to seek out our inner treasures.
About the making of this drum
We make our drums from our home on the edge of the West Pennine Moors in the northwest of England. We create the drums in sacred space each drum is birthed through ceremony, over mugwort incense.
We also take great care in the sourcing of our materials. The Red Deer hide used to make this drum is from Scotland and the timber for the Oak hoop is sourced from UK oak and is crafted by a local carpenter in Wigan. The wood has a layer of bees wax to bring out it’ natural grain. The wax is from bees which have been rescued.
