This is a 16-inch shamanic drum made from Reindeer Deer rawhide and is a special drum as it was birthed at the time of the Oak Full Moon in December.
Each of the Full Moons has a name, and our English ancestors in Medieval England called this the Oak Moon. To reflect this our carpenter has made the wooden hoops from English oak rather than our usual ash and we have decorated the inside of the hoop with a painted oak leaf motif.
We have placed a moonstone crystal in the handle. Moonstone represents the energy of the full moon at the height of its power, enhancing vision, perception and dream work.
We have named this drum ‘Intuition’. It has an emerald green ring to represent the brightness of the spring oak leaves glistening in the sun, and a grey furry handle to make it comfortable to hold.
The energy of oak
The underlying energy of oak tells of inner strength and will lead the way to truth, bringing personal power and vision. Oak energy is also know to provide a gateway to understanding.
Oak restores the will and self determination that may have become weakened in times of stress, and restores faith in the vision of what you are working towards.
The energy of moonstone
Moonstone is a stone of mystery, and is associated with the feminine because of its ability to enhance the intuitive side of the mind. It has been used for centuries to connect with the energy and power of the moon. Rainbow Moonstone emanates great vitality, life force and joy, and offer the gifts of inner peace and harmony, emotional balance and purification.
The energy of Reindeer
The Reindeer has an incredible ability to preserve in difficult environments, and across great distances too, some travelling as far as 3000 miles in one season. Their energy teaches us that great things are possible in our lives. In their surefootedness they can support us to utilize our internal gifts so that we can be as equally sure-footed in any situation, enabling us to easily walk through any challenges which may come our way as we walk our path to realize our dreams.
Guidance for choosing your drum
The 14″ drums are the most portable and tend to have a higher pitch than the larger ones. Our 16″ is often seen as a great compromise between transportability and depth of voice. The larger 18″ drum is a little heavier but usually has a deeper voice. However, each drum is very much an individual and can vary from what is expected.

About the making of this drum
We make our drums from our home on the edge of the West Pennine Moors in the northwest of England. We create the drums in sacred space and awakening them in ceremony over incense.
We also take great care in the sourcing of our materials. The Red Deer hides used to make our drums come from Scotland and the Reindeer hides come from Finland. The timber for the Oak hoop is sourced from Europe and is crafted by a local carpenter in Wigan. The wood has a layer of beeswax to bring out its natural grain. The wax is from bees which have been rescued.
